Design DIVAS OBG Blog Hop!!

Hello and Welcome to the Facebook Design DIVAS OBG Blog Hop! So glad you are here! If you came here from Mary Griffith's blog, then you are in the right place! If you would like to start at the beginning of the hop, head over to Cindy Grigiski 's blog!
Link
The Facebook Design DIVAS (Divine, Inspirational, Virtuous , Artistic "Sistahs") is a group of crafters who love to share their inspiration, talent and fellowship! We have our "Oldies But Goodies" Blog Hop the third Wednesday of each month. Our challenge is to use products that have been neglected or forgotten for at least six months. Be sure to mark your calendars and stop by each month to share in the fun! You are sure to see some amazing projects!

My project to share today is a masculine birthday card. These always seem to be needed and seem the hardest to come up with. This time I needed a card for my son-in-law. I even got excited when I came across a stamp set I had not used in quite some time! I started with a card base from My Mind's Eye. I love the brown and blue together for a masculine card! I found some matching cardstock in my stash and stamped/clear embossed the lighthouse in Night of Navy craft ink! This image is from The Angel Company's "Light the Path" set. I then stamped and embossed the birthday greeting from the Inkadinkado's "Greetings" Collection. I cut the image and greeting down to size with scalloped scissors. Next, I cut the mats and sponged all the edges with the craft ink. I also added the Making Memories "Metal Sayings" sticker for some extra interest. The last detail is some baker's twine in Cappuccino color. Then I adhered the image and greeting to the card with dimensionals. I hope you like the result! I was pleased to see these older products come to life again!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! It is always a treat to have you here! Now, you will want to hop on over toDru Cabral's blog! She always has the neatest things to share!

Hope you enjoy the hop and I leave you with...

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Blog Blessing from Susan

Hello Friends!

I am feeling pretty spiffy right now! A new friend and now blogging buddy, has blessed me with a blog award! Thank you, Susan! Be sure to check out Susan's blog, Cricut and Grasshopper! She has wonderful cards, layouts, tips and projects on her blog!

There are a few goodies that come along with this award.
The rules for the Stylish Blogger Award are:
1. Thank the person who gave the award, and link back to their blog.
2. Share 8 things about yourself.
3. Pass this award to 8 individuals.
4. Leave a comment so they can pass on the recognition

I have no problem with #1, 3, and 4. It's that #2 that gives me pause. Oh, I can share 8 things; but, I am afraid they aren't anything news worthy...lol! So, in the spirit of the award....

1. I am Southern born and love it! If I can't remember someone's name, it's ok! You are all "Honey" and "Sweetie" to us anyway!
2. When I am not in the craft room, I am in the kitchen. Cooking is my passion!
3. My pet peeve is lack of manners! It takes so little to be respectful and nice to people.
4. I am one of seven generations to live in "the ol' home place". Yep, I live in a house that's over a hundred years old! The windows rattle, the floors all slope (in different directions) and some of the window sills are a foot deep where the windows were cut out of the logs!
5. I have worked in many and varied fields, but my favorite is "professional volunteer"!
6. I would love to own and operate my own tea room!
7. I am a tool junkie!
8. God is most important in my life! Only with His love and grace can I do all other things!

Now, to pass this along to eight other friends! It's hard to narrow down the list. So many of my blogging friends qualify for this award!

1. Mary Griffiths - http://mystampinhide-away.blogspot.com/
2. Peggy Marsh -http://thewiredangel.blogspot.com/
3. Maria Matter-http://joyfulstamper.blogspot.com/
4. Karen Howe Murray-http://www.papercraftmemories.com/
5. Gina Flowers Lindsay-http://ginasmakingsandmusings.blogspot.com
6. Carrie Clovis Lipovich-http://stampsscrapsandscissors.blogspot.com/
7. Chris Dickinson-http://www.chrissyd723.blogspot.com/
8. Sue Walsh-http://a-consuming-passion.blogspot.com/

These ladies all have awesome blogs and amazing talent! Now, Ladies, don't hate me for sending you this award! You deserve it and I am looking forward to reading about you!! And, yes, I understand payback is the dickens...lol!

I want to thank Susan again for including me in this award! She sure knows how to make a girl feel special!

Thanks to all of you for stopping by! Always a treat to have company! Hope everyone has a great week filled with many blessings!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

You Bring the Cheese, I'll Bring the Whine!!

Hello Everyone!

If this is your first visit to Bountiful Blessings, you may want to wait for another day to visit. This is not going to be a typical post for me. If, on the other hand, you like to hear moaning and complaining...well then, get your coffee or tea, pull up a chair and get comfortable!

Those of you who know me or follow my blog know I am usually a "glass half full" kind of person! On my bad days, I may even get to "glass half empty". Well, today, I am pushing the "WHAT GLASS???" kind of day!! I normally wouldn't share this kind of day with others, but I found myself thinking, "I can't be the only one who has these days!" So, I thought I would vent a little (or a lot) here and let everyone know it's okay to have a "what glass?" kind of day. It's what you do with it that matters!

I often refer to my computer as my "significant other". With very limited vision and no driving allowed, it provides me a wonderful link to the world around me. Well now my link has a major kink! I think it's a virus but all the scans and clean-up programs say no. Everything is functioning as it should. Then why can't I get into places I have always gone before??? Why are my favorite sites freezing up or not opening at all??? I can only get to SCS like every third day! ERRR!!! Maybe I shouldn't have referred to this hunk of tech bits as my significant other! Maybe it is being a poophead just to get to me! (Can you tell I don't get out much?) At any rate, frustration is high, depression is looming, and cussing is definitely in my future!

On another note... I was thrilled to finally get an email subscription added to my blog! (Thank you, Monica!) I am using Feed Burner and I have discovered you get what you pay for! (It's free!) I noticed a sharp decline in comments first and then a real decline in hits to my blog. I thought maybe it was because I was not posting as often as I used to, but then I discovered what was happening! When Feed Burner sends the email to notify I have posted, they also send MY ENTIRE POST including pictures!! No wonder I have fewer visitors accounted for! Subscribed followers don't have to even visit the blog!! Now, you are thinking, "why don't you change the settings or go to another service?" First, you can't change the settings and second, I can't afford to pay for another service! So, I have resigned myself to the fact that folks are enjoying my blog and I am thrilled! I just won't have that ego boosting, makes it worthwhile feeling you get when you see the comments and hits move up. You know you love that feeling, too! You know you do! I craft because I love it! But, it is all the more rewarding when you read that comment or see the numbers climb!

So, I have vented some of my frustrations with my computer experiences, made everyone think "put on your big girl panties, Vicki, and get over it!" and I have made myself feel better for having shared! Now, I am going to try one more time to find this bug in my computer and I am going to keep posting my craft projects and feeling the love from all of you.

Wait a minute......is that a glass I see?? Oh, and look! It's a full glass! A full glass of blessings that fill my life on a daily basis! A full glass of love that I share with my family and friends. A full glass of love, mercy and grace that only God can give me!

So, at this point, I guess all I can say is, "NEVERMIND!!"

ETA: To all my blog group friends...I love and miss you! I still can't get on SCS but I am thinking of you all!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Happy Easter!

Hello Friends!

We had a great time Saturday with our church's Senior group, The KeenAgers! It was an afternoon filled with fun, food and fellowship! We always try to have some little goodies as party favors and take home treats. I thought I would share those with you today!

We were fortunate to find chocolate crosses at a nominal price, but to add to the treat, I stamped an Easter card and adhered it to the back of each box. It covered up the nutritional info; but, if you are eating chocolate, does it really matter?!?!? LOL!! We placed one of these at each table setting. We also made up treat bags for everyone. I was able to find these cute bags at the dollar store. I love the colors! In each bag we included various bite size types of candy, a chocolate bunny, a notepad, a pencil, a mini drum ( that you play by rolling in your hands and says "make a joyful noise"), a seed packet and a plastic egg with an Easter penny and poem inside! The Easter penny poem reads:

Here is an Easter penny
All shiny and new
To remind you of your blessings
At Easter and all year, too!

Happy Easter

These were a big hit with everyone! I share these things because I know many of you work with church groups. If you are like me, you are always looking for ideas for those groups. It seems to get harder each year to come up with new projects! So, I hope I have offered some inspiration for your next church gathering! If you have tried and true projects that have worked for you, please let me know! Maybe we should start a project idea swap! How fun!

I hope you have a great week ahead and you are blessed to meet with some Senior KeenAgers of your own! What a treasure!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Glitterbees Challenge Thankful

Hello Everyone!

Today I have a very special card to share with you! It is for the Glitterbees Challenge to use Teal, Peach and Orange hosted by Amy! Even more than the challenge, this card represents how thankful I am that a turn of events this week had a blessed outcome!

This past weekend my girls' father and my former husband suffered a heart attack. He made it to the hospital and after a battery of tests, it was found he had blockage in almost ninety percent of his arteries. This is a retired US Marine with a family history of heart disease. The sheer fact he made it through the attack was miraculous! He had quadruple bypass surgery on Wednesday and came through with his usual Marine style. Surgery was completed early with a very short recovery time and he was off the heart and lung machines, breathing tube out, sitting up and talking in less than three hours! Even though we are no longer married, we share two wonderful girls and he is very important to our lives. Needless to say, there was much prayer going on and stress levels were still high. We are all blessed that God's grace and mercy and healing are evident in our lives. That is why this card is even more special to me. I am so thankful for the blessings and love that covers me, my family, my friends, and, yes, even the man I was once married to. Thank you for letting me share this story with you and for all the prayers and good thoughts that came from my wonderful blogging friends!

I started with the deep orange card base and adhered DP stock from the DCWV Fun in the Sun Stack. I was a little perturbed that the base stock peeled even though it was scored. So, plan B was to distress all the edges! I was actually happy with the look afterwords. I punched an accent flower and added a button to the center. I also added buttons to the flowers printed on the DP stock. I used dental floss for thread in the buttons. I stamped the "Thankful" sentiment with a Fiskars stamp, which is a candy prize from Ms. Loretta, in Chestnut Roan Chalk ink.

I haven't decided what I am going to do with this card yet. My first thought (and the one I will probably go with) is to display it in my craft room as a constant reminder of all I have to be thankful for!

Sorry for the long post! I don't usually like to share too much personal info here, but I felt I needed to share this with you and maybe remind us all again of the many blessings we share in our daily lives! I hope you will visit again soon as I am planning a much more festive post the next time!! Have an awesome weekend and hug those you love with a little more gusto, OK??

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Sunshine Award

Hello Friends!

I have been blessed once again with a blog award! I am almost embarrassed to accept this one as it is a Sunshine Award and there has been very little sunshine on my blog in the last while.

I want to thank Jennifer for this award! Jennifer is an awesome young woman! She is stationed, with her hubby and beautiful daughter, in Germany for the moment. She also happens to live in the same apartment building as my daughter and family. Jen has gone past the neighbor status and worked her way up to "family". She is always there to help out and keeps the humor going when the duty is more than dismal! One of the hardest parts of the military life is having to say goodbye to such wonderful friends. So, Jen, there will be no goodbyes....just a "see ya later"!

I would like to pass this award along to some awesome blogging friends who always make the sun shine a little brighter in my days!

Karli- always a ray of inspiration
Carrie- makes my blog time so much sweeter
Micki- a ball of sunshine all by herself
Kathy- always takes the time
Monica-a light of hope and inspiration

Please take the time to visit these wonderful ladies and you will see why I appreciate them so much! Thank you for stopping by today! It is always a joy and a blessing for me!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Fur Family Update

Hello Friends!

Some of you may remember this picture from a previous post last summer. This was "Ria". a kitten that was abandoned by the mother and the only one to survive from a litter of five. Well, Ria turned out to be a "HE-A" so his name is now "Little One".

Little One will be a year old in April and is a constant source of joy! He has gone from laying in my arms to taking over my bed! He can be a "terrible twos" like terror with his antics, but he always makes me laugh! No shelf is too high, no plant is too wet, and no piece of paper ever stays where you put it! The other cats just look at him and shake their heads!! I keep thinking he'll outgrow his zest for play, but I hope not. He's the clown that keeps my spirits up!

I also wanted you to see what this little imp grew up to look like. He is small compared to the other cats but so was his mama. His lack of size has never held him back and his 'hit and run' tactics have served him well! I am thankful that all the special attention he required (just like those 2 AM feedings) has let him grow into a happy and healthy friend. He brings me joy and entertainment that none of my other animals can match!

It was a real chore to get photos of him STILL but I managed to get a couple of shots while he was distracted! (which is an easy thing for him to be...LOL).

I hope each of you has a "Little One" in your life! Be it dog, cat, bird, or fish, they are God's creatures and a living testimony of His love.

Well, I am off to see what I have to put back, replace or refill for the umpteenth time! Thanks for sharing your time
with us today and we hope you will stop by often! I hope to have some crafting time today if I can get Little One off my desk and out of my chair!!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Happy 101st Birthday Aunt Ethel!

Hello Friends! It was a busy weekend but we had a family milestone reached again! My Great Aunt had her 101st birthday! We are all amazed and thrilled that she gets around as she does and still knows most of us. She still works her word find puzzles everyday, too!

It was a wonderful celebration with family and friends! We all enjoyed the cake and ice cream! But no one as much as Aunt Ethel! The picture shows her in all her Christmas finery right down to the birthday crown!

If you think about all the changes she has seen in her years, it is mind boggling. She saw cars driven for the first time, the first telephones, the beginning of radio and television just to mention a few. It was a hoot to watch when she used a microwave oven the first time! She taught elementary school for almost forty years so you can imagine the changes she saw as the curriculum changed! Wow! We are so proud of her and so fortunate to have shared her stories and tales!

Thanks for letting me share a little about this very special lady. My hope now is that the "gene pool" trickles down a few generations!! I am now living in the house she was born in and I feel the presence of each of them here every day! It is wonderful to be one of seven generations to share the experience!

I hope each of you has a blessed Christmas and gets a chance to be with family and friends this holiday!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

My First Transcontinental Award

Greetings to all!

I am once again humbled and honored to receive a blog award. This award came to me from Crafty Sue. Sue is in Italy and shares wonderful projects on her blog in both English and Italian. I have learned a great deal and been inspired by Sue's creativity. To the best of my knowledge this award is for the" blog with beautiful eyes".
This award originated from http://li-katuki.blogspot.com/. We are to include this phrase" Nenhum olhar è mais puro do que uma criança...." which means "The eyes of a child are the purest". Isn't that beautiful? And the precious face on this award just has to make you smile! Here are the instructions for this award:

  1. Post the sentence : Nenhum olhar è mais puro do que uma criança....
  2. Post the award.
  3. Mention the blog that gave birth to this award: "Arte da Li" http://li-katuki.blogspot.com/
  4. Mention and thank the blog that gave you this award and post their blog link.
  5. Pass it on to 10 blogs and leave a comment on their blogs to let them know they've been awarded.
Since I know no Italian blogs other than Sue's, I am going to offer this award to those of you who would like to share it. You can copy from my blog or Sue's.

Thank you so much, Sue, for this award and for blessing me with your caring and inspiration! You help to make this blogging experience so much richer! Dio ti benedica.

Hope you all will come back and visit again soon!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Thankful Days !!

Hello Everyone! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Ours was truly blessed as we gathered with dear friends and shared a delicious buffet feast! For those who could still move, we cleared the table and brought out the sales flyers! There were five pounds of those things in our local paper! Five pounds!! Imagine the trees we could have saved! But, being the people we are, we succumbed to the urge to shop! We made our lists and then made plans for Black Friday! We left at 4:30 AM the next morning and shopped til we dropped! Literally! We found a few bargains, but mostly just enjoyed ourselves looking and watching. There are going to be some very happy children come Christmas morning if what we saw is an indication!

I hope each of you had a fun relaxing time (once the food was served) and were able to be with ones you love for this very special holiday!

Even though we get caught up in the hooplah of the business world, we still take the time to share what we are thankful for. I am most thankful for my Savior who died for me that I may have eternal life. I am also thankful for the eyesight I have been left with. I so enjoy my crafting and cooking and seeing all those I love and hold dear. Which leads to my gratitude for each of you! You make my world such a better place with your love, support and inspiration! Each day is enriched by your thoughts, comments and suggestions! God bless you!

Now it's time to say goodbye to all our company....wait! That's a song, isn't it?!?! Sorry Mickey! Now it's time to concentrate on my favorite time of year. I love everything about the Christmas season! I love celebrating the birth of our Lord and the giving spirit we all share! I pray that each of you knows the beauty and peace of this holiday all year through!!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

Thank You Sue!

I have been honored by Sue Daly with this blog award! Thank you so much Sue! You can view her blog here. I am now even more inspired and encouraged to get back to the fun I have with my blog and my blog friends!

Sweet Dreamers' Challenge # 6 Share a Hug and I Love You Mama

Greetings! Today I have a very special card to share with you. This is the card I made for this challenge but more importantly I wanted to send my Mom a hug! She only lives about 1/4 of a mile away and we see each other almost every day. I know, I am blessed in that alone. But there's never enough ways to say I love you or give a hug to someone so special. My Mom has been there for me so many times when she needed a hug herself. When I was diagnosed with this eye disease and told I couldn't drive any more, she also became my driver. It's a full time job "driving Miss Vicki"! Never once has she complained or said she couldn't help. I owe her so much more than a card full of hugs can say.

She loves vintage things and when I found this vintage post card, I immediately thought of her. I made four copies of the card and proceeded to cut up the image to make the 3 D layers. Each layer is adhered with glue dots. I mounted the layers onto card stock which I had faux woodgrained in green ink. Then I added the border which was punched with a Fiskars border punch. I then adhered all this to a kraft card base. The card is very sturdy and can be displayed as a picture. As I had hoped, she loves it!

I use the phrase Bountiful Blessings every day and I truly have many. But none so precious as the blessings I receive from my Mama. I love you, Mama!

I hope you enjoyed your visit today and you will take the time to send a hug to someone special to you. It is one of the little things we do that means the world to someone who needs it!

Blessings to you,
Vicki

A Very Special Thank You

Hello Friends! I want to start by saying a special thank you to all those who left sweet, kind, and inspiring words on my blog as I "hit the wall"! You will never know how much comfort and encouragement you have given me. God bless you all! I am trying to get back in the groove with this card today. The images are from a 3D sheet I found on Picasa. There are actually four layers of the focal image. I printed it out on glossy photo stock, trimmed out the layers, and mounted them with glue dots.
It involves a lot of detail cutting and a LOT of glue dots but is well worth the effort. IRL this card looks like a genuine antique. I love the vintage look and I think I will try to do some more of these to make a collection. Today this card is for all my cyber friends who have enriched my life and made the days so much brighter! You are all "Very Special Friends"! Blessings to all!

And the Blessings Keep Flowing
