Spice Cake Pumpkin

I want to share with you today a pic of the cake I made for our Senior group function at church. Many there thought it was a fake and only for decoration! But it was a ready to eat cake.

I baked two bundt cakes and stacked them tops together. This was a spice cake pumpkin. I made the orange frosting and used the design on the cake to add texture to the pumpkin. The bottom border is English ivy leaves. The top is a combination of silk leaves and a real pumpkin stem. The stem makes all the difference! I have to admit that I got a pretty strange look from the produce guy when I asked for just the stem! He had a big grin and cut a stem for me. I explained I needed it for a pumpkin shape cake and he seemed relieved!

The cakes can be made well ahead and frozen if necessary. The frosting will last up to a month if kept tightly covered and refrigerated. I store all my frosting in zip lock bags and freeze any leftovers for the last minute cupcakes or cookies.

It was fun to see the reactions to this cake and one lady even winced when I went to cut it! The double cake makes for nice big slices so you may need a bigger plate than regular dessert size or flip one layer over the other when you plate it. You could also carve a face into the cake if you need a jack-o-lantern.

Birthday on the Lake

Hi Folks! This is the birthday cake I made for my granddaughter, Tori, for her 5th birthday! She had a swimming party at a nearby lake so she wanted a "lake cake"! It was a perfect day with beautiful weather, a sanded beach and shallow water, a cool breeze and even a fish or two jumping! She and her friends played for hours and only came out of the water for snacks and cake, of course! Her cake is half chocolate, half strawberry (her favorites) and frosted with buttercream frosting. I made the beach chairs and flip flops out of craft foam colored with Sakura gel pens. The animals and the little girl were from a "Polly Pocket" set. The "beach" is frosting covered with brown sugar. I used foliage from around my house to mimic the trees around the lake.The birthday banner was printed on the computer. I was thrilled when we arrived at the site and the cake had "travelled well". Thanks for letting me share this special day for our family. I would love to see and hear about your special cakes, too! Rev It Up!

Hello Everyone!
I thought I would give the paper crafts a rest for today and share a cake I made for our pastor's birthday. He rides a motorcycle so I couldn't resist this image I found. No, I'm not an artist by any means!! I add images to cakes by printing them off on freezer paper! The wax side down makes for easier removal when you are ready to slice the cake. And freezer paper is much more accessable as well as cheaper than rice paper! Give it a try! I would love to see a pic of your work! Please email me or leave a comment with a link!! Wedding Cake Slices

This is a wedding cake made of favor boxes. The pic was made "under glass" so the detail is not as bold as I would like but I think the idea still comes through. These boxes were a little different from other "cakes" I have made as these are crafted with wallpaper. The paper is deeply embossed and has a shine to it that just says "bride". Mountain Waterfall Cake

This is a birthday cake I made for my grandson. It combines his love of the mountains, hunting and flying. Click on pic to enlarge. It was a challenge to get the height but fun to "hide" the animals all around the cake.I love making theme cakes and hope to share some others with you all along. "Sugar Free" Favor Box Cake

This is a beautiful addition to any party, shower, or reception. The cake is actually 12 favor boxes ready to be filled with goodies such as manicure supplies or makeup for the bithday girl.
