Woo Hoo! It's OBG time!

Hello Friends! Hope your week is going well! It's that wonderful Wednesday for us at Design DIVAS! It's time for our Oldies But Goodies Blog Hop! If this is your first visit to our hop, you should know that the Design DIVAS are a Facebook group of crafters who have come together to share our love of crafting. We also share inspiration, motivation and support with each other. It has been a true blessing to me to be a part of this great group of ladies! The Oldies But Goodies hop challenges us to make a project using items in our stash that are at least six months old. If you are like me, the real challenge is to decide which "oldie" to use first!!

I have the privilege of starting our hop this month! So, grab your coffee or tea and be ready to be inspired! The awesome talent in this group just goes on and on!

Today, I want to share with you a birthday card. My dear friend (and best customer...lol) requested a card for her daughter. I decided to go vintage because that is my favorite and a theme I knew her daughter would enjoy. I started with a card base of stock from a K & Company stack called "Life's Journey". The vintage postal marks and stamps were just what I was looking for. This is a double sided stack so I used the "written" side for the base. The matte layer was cut and edged with a scallop punch. The birthday sentiment is stamped on vellum and embossed. Now, the really fun part! The buttons used are from a collection given to me by the mom who requested the card. I knew her daughter would appreciate this touch of nostalgia. I adhered the buttons with glue dots. So far, every thing used has met the criteria for this challenge. The ribbon trim on the card is a more recent purchase. Lastly, I used Old Olive ink to shadow the edges. I love the antique look of this card!

Hello Friends!

Quite the weekend for the East Coast, huh? Hope everyone came through with little or no damage or injury!

I want to share a card with you today that was made for my nephew. He is a wonderful guy who I dearly love! He has been in the theater many years wearing many "hats"; actor, writer, singer, dancer, you name it! To hear him talk in his soothing Southern drawl warms any heart! But, to see him on stage and speaking a whole different dialect and expressing a completely different persona just blows me away! For his birthday card, my thoughts immediately went to the theater masks, comedy and tragedy.

I started with a standard size card base in Brilliant Blue. I rounded the corners of the base as well as the gold mat layer. Having no stamps for the masks, I went to the computer and found the clip art. I only used the comedy mask for this card. I printed those images twice, cut them out and layered them on the card with dimensionals. I printed the greeting, also on the computer, using Print Shop. Next, I sponged the edges of the greeting layer with some Brilliant Blue ink. As a final accent, I added some copper colored adhesive pearls. I am happy to say he loved it!

I always seem to enjoy the cards made for family much more, don't you? I love crafting cards, but those going to family and friends just make me enjoy the process in a different way!

Vintage Birthday!

Greetings to all! Ready for the weekend? We were looking forward to some cooler weather but looks like we are going to have the storms to come with it! Crazy Spring here in the mountains!

I have a birthday card to share with you today. This was a true labor of love as I made it for my best friend, Mary! She is such an awesome lady and my "rock" for several years now! I hope all of you have someone in your life that is your "Mary"! It is such a blessing!

Mary likes vintage styles, and her favorite colors are pastels. I tried to incorporate those "likes" in her card. I started with some wonderful double-sided cardstock from DCWV's "Fun In the Sun" collection. I cut the 12 x 12 sheet to 8 1/2 x 11 and made a half fold base. I used the tree branch stamp from the SU "Easter Blessings" set and Color Box Chalk ink in Warm Violet to stamp the background. I then cut the top layer edge with a Martha Stewart border punch. I rounded and distressed all the other edges. The greeting was cut and embossed from the same stock with the Spellbinders "Peony" die and then stamped and clear embossed with the a Stampede "Elegant Birthday" stamp. I outlined the embossing with a pink glitter pen. The ribbon trim is an Offray ruffled white satin. I also used the white ribbon to make the flowers. I embellished the flower centers with petite flower brads. The flowers are very easy to make with the ruffled ribbon. It is just curled in a spiral with glue dots to hold it all along. These are attached with glue dots also. To "bling it up" even more I added a jeweled hat pin and ribbon slide from Making Memories. The heart "Gemstones" are from Paper Studio and the pearls are from K and Company. I found a wonderful poem for the inside of the card and thought you might have a "sister" in your life you would like to share it with.

You may see me use more of the ruffled flowers all along as they are so easy to make and ruffled ribbon comes in so many wonderful colors. I don't know about mailing a card with these flowers. I hand delivered this card, but I know there is extra postage required to mail a half fold card. I was also told that any card that is too thick to go through the machines is charged extra. I just don't think I would risk mailing a card with these flowers and beads on it.

Well, my four legged babies are telling me I have said enough(they want to go out), so I will leave you with a wish for a wonderful weekend and, as always...

Happy Birthday, Mister!

Good Morning Friends!

Yay! The weekend is here! After a terrible weather week here in our area, I am looking forward to some calm Spring weather this weekend! Beautiful today with sunshine and a cool breeze! Even the animals seem calmer and happier!

I had been asked to create some masculine birthday cards. Today I would like to share one of them with you. I tend to keep masculine cards simpler but with an extra touch or two.

This project started with a My Mind's Eye card base. This particular base put me in the mind of a man's vest. Keeping it simple, I rounded the outside corners and sponged the outside edge with Really Rust craft ink. The pocket watch is stamped in the same ink and outlined with gold metallic pen. The "hands" on the watch are tool brads. I used a Hero Arts stamp for the greeting and used the Cuttlebug and Labels Four die to cut it out. I also used the gold pen around this layer. The sentiment inside was computer generated. I thought about adding more embellishments but decided I liked the clean look for an older gentleman's card.

I hope your week has gone well! Are you ready for a new month and Mother's Day? I sure am! April has been hectic to say the least! Spring really came in like a lion for us this year! Now I am ready for some "lamb" days!

Design DIVAS OBG Blog Hop

Hello Friends!

Welcome to the March Design DIVAS OBG (Oldie But Goodie) Blog Hop! So glad you could join us!

If you came here from Brenda Turner's blog, you are in the right place! If you would like to start from the beginning of the hop, you can start with Melissa Cash's blog!

The idea for our blog hop is to use items in our craft stash that have not been used for at least six months! I think my project today more than meets that criteria!

The birthday card I am sharing today started with a half fold white cardstock base. My next layer on the card is my OBG, wallpaper! I have had this piece in my stash for over a year and was thrilled to see it go to good use! It is a beautiful heavily textured and embossed piece. I can't imagine it on a wall. but I love it for this card! I used a vellum overlay on the card to soften the image. I then stamped the sentiment on the vellum and embossed with white powder. The inside greeting was computer generated! I finished the card with a ruffled pink ribbon. I had quite a bit of difficulty photographing this card due to its size and texture. This is definitely one of those cards that the picture does not do it justice!

Cricut Birthday Roses

Hello Friends!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and thawing out from our serious snows! I was kind of sad to see all the snow melt away. Everything was so beautiful in that blanket of white!

Today, I'd like to share with you a card project made for a very special lady! Her mother actually ordered the card; but, bless her heart, the mother gave me the freedom to create anything I wanted. I love it when I can let go the reins and just create!

I started with a half-fold card base (5 1/2 x 8). I used DCWV cardstock and cut it down to size. Most of the vintage floral is covered, but it still made for a beautiful background. I then cut the outside edge with a Fiskars border punch. I distressed all the edges and sponged them with SU Old Olive ink.

I knew I wanted to do a floral bouquet on this card, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to display it. I decided to go with a nosegay look, so I gathered some lace trim and attached it to the card with Quick Dry Tacky Glue. I also chose to use roses as the flower. These were cut with the Cricut "Walk In My Garden" cartridge. I used the blackout feature to cut the base of the rose head in a soft pink cardstock. I cut the top of the rose in a darker shade of pink. This is where I started playing until I was happy with the look! I went ahead and put the rose together with foam dimensionals. Then, I sponged on SU Pink Passion ink. Not happy with that result, I went over them again with Warm Violet Brilliance ink. They still looked too "new" for the vintage style I wanted, so I went over them again with SU Really Rust. And, yes, the paper held up well through all that!! I decided I wanted some shimmer on them, so, I added some Kaleidoscope embossing powder by dabbing them with some Boss Gloss embossing ink. I had to be careful with the heat tool so as not to melt the dimensionals. I got a little shimmer, but I just wasn't happy with the look yet. As a final step on these "dried" roses, I decided to emboss once more with clear powder. Voila! I finally liked the vintage look that came through! I am sure there are many ways I could have achieved this "color" but I had fun with this! I attached the roses in a bouquet pattern with dimensionals. For the stems, I doubled floral wire and covered them in green satin ribbon. These were attached under the roses with the tacky glue. I made a simple multi-loop bow with seafoam green satin ribbon and attached it with glue dots. I used a pearl head corsage pin with a heart cross charm to also anchor the bow. As an extra removable accent, I stuck in a beaded hat pin. Whew! I was finally happy with the finished bouquet! I know, I know...a little anal wasn't I?

For the sentiment layer, I stamped the greeting with Versamark and heat embossed it with gold powder. I used a Spellbinders Label 9 die to cut the panel. The "daughter" is a gold sticker. I sponged the edges with the Old Olive and attached the layer with dimensionals.

The inside of the card was very simple. I let the pattern of the paper do the "work" inside and added a computer generated "Daughter" greeting.

Now, with all those layers and the overall dimension of the card, I had to come up with a "cover" for it. I had no envelope that would hold the thickness, so I made a box for it. I used coordinating cardstock and the card as a template. I cut the top of the box the same way only 1/8 inch bigger to cover the base. I tied a green satin bow around the box and it looked so pretty. Sorry, but it was delivered before I could get a picture of the box.

This was a total labor of love for a very special friend! Thankfully, she loved it! She even loved the box!! And that's why I love what I do! To know someone appreciates your work is so rewarding! Don't you think so?

Blue Birthday Greetings

Hello and Welcome!

Just a quick post today to share a birthday card. I started this project using a blue floral card base. The layers were created using white card stock cut with the Cricut. (Forgive me, but the cart for this layer has left my brain completely.) I outlined the border of this layer with a silver gel pen and added pearl accents. The Flower T was cut with the Songbird cartridge. The bow is a little goody from my stash! The sentiment layer is a rectangle with the corners punched using a filigree punch. The Happy Birthday was stamped with Versamark and then embossed with silver powder. A tiny pearl was used to dot the"i". The layers and flower were raised on dimensionals. I used a white gel pen for faux stitching all around the card and layers. For the inside of the card, I used computer generated sentiments on layers cut with deco scissors and a border punch. I added a stamped heart outlined with the white gel pen again as a last touch.

As you can see, this card was designed for the daughter of a dear friend. I seem to always have greater inspiration if I know the recipient of the cards I make, don't you?

I hope everyone's New Year is getting off to a great start! The weather has been a big factor for us this year. We're seeing more snow than we have in many years. I love it, but I feel so bad for those who have to drive in it. These first few days of the year also bring back memories of my grandmother who grew up in these hills and lived by the proven statistics of her life. She would record the weather for the first twelve days of January and then predict the weather for the twelve months of the year! I was amazed by how accurate her predictions always were! We can be skeptical of these mountaineer or hillbilly visions, but they used every aspect of their surroundings to provide a better chance of survival for their families. And it worked!!

House Full of Birthday Blessings

Hello Everyone! Are you getting excited about your Thanksgiving holiday? It is one of my favorites! This year is a special treat as I am going to be with my daughter and family for their first Thanksgiving back in the States! After three years in Germany, we are so thankful to be together!

The card I have to share today was a little time consuming to complete but still fun to make. It's always a fun time when I can use my Cricut!

I started with a cranberry cardstock base and layered patterned paper with a diamond pattern. The house is cut with the Winter Woodland cartridge from a DCWV adhesive mat stack. The fence is cut from pink cardstock with the Heritage cart. The sentiment is cut with the George cart, first in green and then in shadow layer in pink. I added small cranberry pearls to the center of some of the flowers and larger pearls as accents for the gate. The ribbon is threaded through the card and tied into a bow. I used a hand held diamond punch to make slots for the ribbon to run through. I distressed the edges of the card base to add a little more interest. On the inside, I layered more patterned paper and added the greetings which were stamped and computer generated. The greetings layers were punched with a Martha Stewart border punch. More steps than usual for this card, but I think worth the time! Hope you like it, too!

It is so good to be back in my craft room and making cards for friends again! My "therapy" of crafting is back in session and making my days a lot more enjoyable! Life has its twists and turns but I can always count on my craft goodies to keep me going! LOL! Isn't it amazing how some paper, ink and "toys" can make you smile?!?!?

I want to wish each of you a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for and a big part of the blessings I enjoy are due to my wonderful cyber friends and family! Hope the turkey comes out just right, your football team wins, and you can enjoy knowing you are loved and appreciated!

Keep On Rollin'

Hello Friends!

I have a fun card to share with you today! I was asked to make a birthday card for a friend's roller skating buddy. The really neat thing about this group of skaters is they are all Seniors and the oldest is 93! It is amazing to see them circle the floor like they do! I can barely stand on roller skates, much less look good at it!

I started with a Kraft cardstock base and layered patterned paper from my stash. I rounded the outside corners on both pieces. Next, I distressed all the edges and sponged them with Vintage Photo Distress ink. I used the Cricut Wild Card cartridge to cut the "It's Your Day". The skate was cut with the Cricut Sports Mania cart. It is actually an ice skate pattern, so, I cut it in shadow and then trimmed off the blade. I punched the shoestring holes with a 1/16th punch and threaded them with red twine (from the dog food bag!). Then I added a little bow at the top. The edges of the skate are embossed with black powder. I used circle punches to make the wheels and the stop. Those are edged with gold glimmer pen. I added crease lines, stitch lines and sponged a sort of shadow on the skate with the Distress ink. I then attached it to the card with dimensionals. Keep on Rollin' is written with a calligraphy pen. Finally, I added brown striped grosgrain ribbon to the top and bottom. A Happy Birthday sentiment is stamped inside. I love the finished look! I think this is what my friend was asking for, and it should be just the right card for a male skater!

M is for Mary

Happy Monday All!

Hope all the Moms had a fantastic Mother's Day! I was blessed to be with my Mom and one of my daughters and two of my grandchildren! We had beautiful weather and a fun time at a neighbor's cookout!

The card I am sharing today was made for my dear friend Mary. She is so special to me! She is always there for me, drives me wherever I need (or want) to go, and is a true Sister in Christ! A birthday card for her was a joy to make! It is a 6 x 6 card made with cardstock from a K&Co collection. I cut a window in the center and curled the pieces back. I used mini copper brads to hold the curls in place. I then cut another piece of the cardstock for the backing. I added a border in coordinating cardstock cut with a MS border punch. The M was cut from gold textured cardstock with the Cricut. Inside I adhered a computer generated verse printed on Swiss dot cardstock and colored with chalk to coordinate with the floral print. I didn't have an envelope for this size and thickness of card, but I was able to make one from a 12 x 12 sheet of coordinating paper. This design is a favorite of mine and I was very pleased with this result! Best of all, Mary loved it!!

Happy Birthday, Jamey!!

Hello Everyone!

Today's card is the birthday card I made for my awesome son-in-law! He, my daughter and grandson are stationed in Germany for a few more weeks. He has done two tours in Iraq and will be leaving for Afghanistan in the Fall. He is definitely my hero! They are all heroes to me!

I started with a kraft card base. The camouflage background and the dog tag are die cuts from the Stand and Salute Cricut cartridge. I used three colors of stock for the background. The sentiment is stamped with a Hero Arts stamp and embossed! I used a chain from a keyring for the dog tag. This card was so much fun to put together and Jamey loved it! Hope you like it, too!

Vintage Birthday

Good Monday Morning All!
Hope you had a good weekend!

Sadly, we had far too much rain in Tennessee and many have lost their homes in the flooding. Please keep these folks in your prayers!

I wanted to share a card today that was made for a dear friend of my mother's. I started with a creme color base and added the cornflower printed paper as the background. The hat and stand was cut from creme colored brocaded wallpaper using the Heritage cartridge for the Cricut.The shoe was cut with the Tie the Knot cartridge and colored with chalks. The colors are much closer than the camera shows. The sentiment was stamped in Brocade Blue SU Craft ink and embossed in clear powder. I also sponged the edges of the Nesties label with the blue. All the accents and sentiment were raised on dimensionals. I love the vintage feel of this card! It was a perfect card for this friend as she collects antiques.

...And the Birthdays Continue!

Greetings! Yippee! We made it to another weekend! Hope you have had a great week!

I am still in birthday mode as the Spring birthdays just keep on coming! Here's two cards made for orders I had.

The patterned papers are some from my stash. The green borders were cut with a Fiskars edge punch. The sentiment on the top card was stamped on a Cricut die cut. I edged the die cut with a gold gel pen.


On the purple card, I used a scallop edge punch and a die cut from the Cricut Storybook cartridge. The sentiment was stamped with a clear stamp.

Both cards have computer generated verses inside.

Dahlia Greetings

Hello and Welcome!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Rain and thunderstorms here, but we badly need the rain and it is cloudy enough to make for a good cleaning and crafting day!

I have another birthday card to share today. This is one of my favorites as I love the vintage feel of this card! I started with a kraft cardstock base and adhered the vellum DP. The flower was made by cutting one of each size Dahlia with my Nesties and then laying them for one focal flower. The brass brad holds them together and I attached it to the card with glue dots. The sentiment is cut from gold vellum with a word window punch. I attached it to the card with mini brads. I plan to duplicate this card as I have some of the DP left. Hope you like it, too!

It's back to the craft room now to play some more!

Happy Birthday Marcus!

Hello and Happy Monday!

What a beautiful weekend we just had! Spring is just an awesome time...except for the allergies, of course! I got to share great times with family and friends this weekend! Hope yours was fun, too!

The card I have to share with you today was made for an older boy whose grandparents and aunt are close friends of mine. The granddad retired from the railroad so I thought this train station DP was perfect for the background! I used Kraft cardstock for the base, adhered the DP and rounded the corners. The sentiment was stamped on a gold vellum tag cut with Nesties. The ribbon slide was also cut from the vellum with a Nesties die. The name is written with a CM marker. A fun and simple card for a dear young man!

Floral Birthday

Hello Friends!

Hope you had a great weekend! Ours was so beautiful in East Tennessee! We shared a great time with my brother and his family! We got to celebrate my Mom's birthday and mine !! I am really ready to celebrate as today is MY birthday! Woo Hoo!! I LOVE birthdays!! I have been so blessed in my life and a birthday just shares the blessing even more! We also have several other family members and friends who have birthdays and anniversaries this month! Over the next few posts, I would like to share some of the cards I made to recognize their special days!

Today's card was one of the largest ones I have made! It was for a very dear friend who has brought so much love and joy into our lives! She is a flower genius and shares her plants as well as her knowledge! Did you know there is an old Southern "wisdom" about giving and receiving plants and flowers? Well, supposedly, you always want to share your bounty with friends and neighbors so that your own "bed" or garden will multiply and grow hearty! And, you never say thank you to someone who gives you flowers or plants! Nope, you say God bless you! Again, supposedly, if you say thank you, your flowers will wither and die! There is some pretty profound stuff in there I think!

Enough Southern lore....back to the card! This was made from DCWV glitter cardstock. I first cut the stock to an 8 1/2 " x 11 " size. I scored it and folded it in half. The bottom border was cut from another sheet. I added button centers to several of the flowers on the stock. I also punched an accent flower from some of the stock. I used a brass brad for the center and attached it with glue dots. The top border was punched with a MS punch. I used Nesties to cut the circle for the sentiment and outlined it with gold marker. The inside of the card was pretty spiffy on its own but I added a stamped sentiment and a computer generated verse. I also added a signature block as the paper was very textured. I love the vibrant colors in this stock and will probably use it often!

Happy Happy Birthday

Hello and Welcome!

How is your day going? Good I hope! It's a special day for our family as my Mom celebrates her 82nd birthday today! No, she won't disown me for telling her age!! She will gladly tell you herself! LOL! We are thankful we made it another year and have no qualms about our age! I made her a special birthday card and you can see it here! She and a dear friend, who has a birthday on the 29th, got to spend the day yesterday being treated to a spa manicure and pedicure and then lunch.
I think my friend, Mary, and I had a better time than they did just watching them be pampered and petted! It was a wonderful day and a great memory maker!

We have lots of Spring birthdays for our family and friends so, I have been kept busy making cards and gift card holders. The card I am sharing today is one of my favs 'cause I love anything to do with birds! I started with a white card stock base and adhered the Spring DP. The bird and cage are cut with my Cricut. I added a pearl dot for the eye and a sheer ribbon at the top. The sentiment is stamped and then punched with a deckle square punch. The border is punched with an EK Success punch.

Masculine Birthday

Greetings from Rocky Top! What an exciting night! Tennessee Volunteers (VOLS) just beat Ohio State and advanced to the Elite 8 in men's basketball! It is their first trip ever to this stage in the tournament! "I say I'm proud to be...a Tennessee VOL!!"

I thought it only fitting to share a masculine birthday card with you in celebration! As you may have noticed, I am loving working with the Kraft card stock! It is such a terrific background for so many colors! I embossed the card base with a Cuttlebug folder and sanded it just a little. I added the sentiment and the ribbon and done! Simple, yes....clean, yes....masculine, yes...Yep, I am done with this one!

Most of the men I send cards to only look at them once, say that's nice and put it down somewhere never to be seen again...LOL! Therefore, I see no reason to "glam it up" very much! The important thing is they were remembered and thought of enough to send a card, don't you think?

I am going to go clean up the mess I made now when the VOLS won, so, I will be back later! Blessings abound in Tennessee!! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Happy Birthday, Mr.!

Hello Friends! I am sitting here listening to the birds sing and watching the sun come up...what a blessing!

Just a quick post about a quick card today. We always need masculine cards and never seem to have any on hand, so I am trying to fill my stash with a few.

I had this DP on hand and love it! So many great colors in there! I adhered it to Kraft card stock, added some ribbon and a decorative clip. The sentiment is stamped with Walnut Stain ink. I also used a strip of the paper on the inside of the card. I just want to say "Mister" when I look at this card!
